The Beginning - 1995
GSMsolutions.ie, now a part of AllCom Ireland (www.AllCom.ie) was founded primarily with a concept to provide comprehensive GSM services for the Irish market. In the beginning it started with mobile phone unlocking and basic repairs. Initially catering for Dublin based businnesses and the general public on a call-out basis, we rapidly developed and expanded our full range of integrated products and services in response to the phenomenal growth of the mobile phone market in Ireland.



Year 2000 - 2002
In the year 2000 we opened our first official office on Dublin's O' Connell Street. Back then it was still considered that mobile phone unlocking was in some way subversive or even illegal! The reaction was what one could expect from the big mobile phone network providers used to the philosophy of litigation by strangulation. Many letters followed and smoke poured from our fax machine for weeks. They demanded that we stop unlocking mobile phones. At first we were understandably a little bit cautious but this just pushed us to the next level and gave way for us to do some extensive research. After 100's of telephone calls, emails and a few solicitors meetings later it allowed us to confirm what we knew from the start, that phone unlocking is perfectly legal under Irish and EU law and in most other countries. We then began an advertising campaign on radio and business took off with a bang as we were the only company unlocking phones back then in Ireland.



At that time there was quite a lot of interest in the equipment used to unlock phones and thus a market was born. Not wanting to put ourselves out of business we started selling unlocking equipment to just a few select shops and businesses around Ireland, and before we knew it phone unlocking exploded worldwide with every Tom, Dick and Harry unlocking phones. We needed to keep a step ahead of the game and we have done so by providing a professional guaranteed service backed up by experience and knowledge. In addition, we now develop our own branded unlocking software for the industry and have taken our services online with www.UnlockCodes.ie

GSMsolutions are now the longest running company in Ireland to offer Mobile Phone Unlocking since we launched the service back in the mid 90's. We have the ability to unlock the majority of handsets in our head office while you wait. Some of our current clients include Vodafone, O2, Meteor, 3 Ireland, Carphone Warehouse retail outlets and quite a number of other general phone shops throughout Ireland to name but a few.



Year 2002 - 2009
In 2002, we decided that unless we moved to a bigger premises on ground level we would find it hard to grow the business and attract new customers. We began searching for a suitable location. We knew for this to work we ideally needed a central location with reasonable over heads. We eventually found what was to be our base for the next 7 years. We opened our new repair centre on Dublin's North Lotts just off the now famous Batchelors Walk and just seconds walk from O' Connell St. The business began to flourish and we expanded our capabilities in all directions directly related to mobile phone and other popular electronic devices.



Helping customers help themselves
With any technology based business we needed to offer quick solutions and excellent customer support, so in March 2004 we created an online support forum - www.DubPhones.com The official customer support forum for what later became the AllCom Ireland Group network of websites. Initially only open to registered customers we eventually allowed anyone to register for free support, this gave way to spammers and bots with took their toll on the forum and over the years we had to re-install the board thus loosing the complete database of members and posts. Once again Dubphones.com is now open to the public with a new version phpBB.


International expansion
With the continual expansion of our business we wanted to start growing internationally, we knew we would experience entirely new challenges, questions and uncertainties. There would be setbacks. However, been ever optmistic we extended our interests overseas with the launch of two new companies, our UK subsidary www.Fonez4u.com was launched in September 2004.


November 2004 we opened a branch state side - www.Templecom.com our US subsidary was formed. We experienced losses in their early years of development, so we put into place a five-year business plan for success. They have gone beyond all expectations. We built exceptional relationships with many of the retailers who provide data for inclusion on this site. Expanding into Asia is the next step to be realised.

Back to our roots
The following year we opted to get back to our roots and www.PhoneVolts.ie was launched to great success. PhoneVolts.ie has fast become Ireland's largest and cheapest independent online retailer of mobile phone accessories and related products. At the time and even until this day there is no other Irish website supplying such a vast range of mobile phone parts and components. PhoneVolts.ie is not like most faceless 'internet based' companies, we have our shop, office and warehouse located in Dublin's city centre which has made it go from strength to strength.



Read between the lines.
With the explosion of the internet boom we believed it may be helpful for people to benefit from our years of research into the mobile phone industry and have the answers at their finger tips when and where its needed instead of needing internet access - The Essential Mobile Phone Handbook was our answer!



The book which was previsouly called "The Mobile Phone Book Of Secret Codes" has sold over 12,000 copies since it was first released in 2002. The first edition was really just a very basic insiders manual which was used by other companies and people in the industry. The new edition named "The Essential Mobile Phone Handbook" has had a complete makeover for the general publics consumption, with almost 100% more content and many many more secret codes, tips and information, which made it an essential reference guide for anyone with a mobile phone. The book has had great interest from the general public due to the fact that it has featured in various newspaper book reviews, one of which can be viewed Here.



Taking a bite of the Apple.
In 2007, the market place became saturated with Apple iPods, and we seen a big surge in the need for a repair service. iPodRepair.ie was launched and we became the central point for iPod repairs in Ireland. On the 19.10.07 we made history. The iPhone hits Irish shelves for the first time. PhoneVolts.ie became the 1st company in Ireland to supply the revolutionary iPhone. O2 followed a short time later.



Later that year we took our first shipment of the long awaited 'Mobile Phone Watch'. To say it was our fastest selling product would be an understatement, our suppliers couldn't keep up with demand. This set in motion our main focus over the next few years - 'to supply the most unusual mobile phones in the world'. We wanted to stay away from the normal run of the mill, so over the next few years we took stock of some of the weirdest phones we had ever seen. The Marlboro Smokers Phone, F1 Phone Car, MickeyDoll Phone, Winnie The Pooh Phone, the TV phone.... the public were fascinated!



Unlocking the future of mobile phones
It's was 3 years in the making..... On 11.06.08, we announced the launch of a new online service that transformed the mobile phone market place like never before. UnlockCodes.ie was a relatively new concept in Ireland that gave people the possibility to unlock/SIM-Free their mobile phone by opening a personal credit based account from the comfort of their own home or office.

The next 12 months were to be a flurry of activity as we had more investment and wanted to really push the boundaries of what we had done in the past. By Feburary 2009 we opened Irelands 1st walk-in repair centre for TomTom sat nav systems. In March we held our first official sponsored quiz night in Fairview CYMC Hall. In May we took the first batch of the revloutionary Rebel SIM Card and also became distributors for the Cellebrite System - Forensic Mobile Phone Extraction Device.

GSM Solutions open new store.
Having out grown our current location we began searching for a new premises around 2007, it wasn't until mid 2009 that we found an ideal location.

Some people thought we were mad to open a new store in the height of Irelands biggest recession, we didn't listen and it became a success! It has taken nearly 2 years to get it off the ground until we finally settled on a premises on Dublins Abbey St. We knew for this to work we ideally needed a central location for the service centre which we eventually found. In July of that year the physical work began on our new store. It took huge investment and months of hard work until we finally opened the door to our new store on the 15th October 2009.



Such was the excitement we wanted to share the experience so we decieded to have an 'official' opening and fundraising day in the store, a press release was issued and on the 31st of October our official launch was a massive success! We had over 1500 people through the door and with 10% of sales going to Temple Street Childrens Hospital and Celeb Tailor Louis Copeland dropping in for the festivities, we had quite a successfull day.



When you enter our store you can view our vast range of mobile phone accessories, parts, electronic components and some of the more rare and unusual electronic gadgets you will ever see. All are layed out in rows of lighted glass cabinets for easy browsing. Non-stop online expansion!
In the same month we further boosted our services with the creation of four new websites. We thought it might be nice to have some new websites to compliment our new store.

1. GSMsolutions.ie
Although GSM Solutions has been online for quite some time we knew it was time for a revamp. The site you are currently viewing is our new main website. Construction started in November 2009. We are quite happy with the overall userability and look. And we are greatful to all the designers who have made it happen.



2. iPodDoctor.ie
About: You can have your iPod or MP3 player fixed in our Dublin workshop 6 days a week, all repairs come with a full guarantee. iPodDoctor.ie provides an Extended Warranty service for ALL models of Apple iPod and other MP3 player brands. We also offer you the chance to resell our service. Let us take care of your after warranty customers.



3. ConsoleRepair.ie
About: We are now Dublin citys longest established Console Repair Centre. We have a dedicated walk-in repair centre located for your convenience in the heart of Dublin city. We stock just about any part or accessory for your Game Console and guarantee to complete repairs in the quickest time possible without any fuss. Often repairs can be done the very same day or even while-u-wait depending on the fault and our current workload.



4. iPhoneCentre.ie
About: The National iPhone Centre provide repair services for all models of Apple iPhone and Apple iPod, including all other makes and models of mp3 players and mobile phones throughout Ireland and the UK. Our services are available for the public and to trade customers at reduced cost. We have a dedicated repair centre located for your convenience in Dublin city.




National Mobile Phone Museum Opens
We wanted to show people that we are not just another business, but a group of people with a real interest in helping others understand technology. The initial concept for a 'Mobile Phone Museum' was first realised about the year 1999. Since then the bulk of the collection has been donated by the GSM Ireland Group, members of the public and various mobile phone companies over the years. They collected dust away from peering eyes of the public until they were first displayed in our new shop. Some of the rare older models have been purchased from auctions around the world in anticipation for the museum opening.



The phones on display aim to show the contrast between some of todays modern masterpieces of technology and the older groundbreaking models such as the 'Brick', the worlds first ever mobile phone! Which ironically was purchased for the collection in 2008 for 600.00 (GBP) and believe it or not, it is in mint condition and still works perfectly - It sits right next to the iconic Apple iPhone (which ironically has broken).

WiMax coming across the nation...WiMax the new sens.. you know how it goes!
In March 2010 GSM Solutions become representatives for WiMax in the Dublin 1 area. Launched by Taoiseach Brian Cowen in Dublin's Mansion House, the Taoiseach said WiMAX will elevate Ireland as the IT envy of Europe and the new network represents "green shoots" for the Irish economy. This new wireless technology provides high speed Internet and phone access at work/home or on the move without the need for line rental. Dublin City BID Meeting a Success!
It was mid June, the sun was shining and the BID team came in force! GSMsolutions were delighted to invite all the team from the BID(Business Improvement District) organisation to our store to give a short talk and introduction about our products and services to help their Visitor Assistant training programme. Dublin City BID is undertaking an extensive Visitor Assistant training programme. Thier Visitor Assistants helped over 100,000 tourists last year and distributed 50,000 maps.

After our emission laden 'Tour of Ireland' we tought we should 'Go Green' so we teamed up with Eco Cartridge. GSMsolutions celebrate thier 1st year on Abbey Street.
October was the month... 2010 was the year... although GSMsolutions have been in operation for over 10 years we celebrated our 1st year in our new store! We had over 400 people through the door on the day. We had a special food menu prepared by our good friends on JL's cafe were 10% of food sales were donated to charity.

''Our road to success for the business has not always been a smooth one. We have been to the edge and back a couple of times. Having been through one major economic downturn business was tough, but we have survived and grown coming out of those down periods. Our customers love our service, because we try to give them what they ask for, i think this has helped us stand shoulder to shoulder with the multinationals, so we would like to thank our customers past present and future, and heres to another 10 years'' said Alan, Director of GSM Solutions.



We also held our first charity raffle, the prizes were picked by John, the owner or JLs Cafe and Romano, from Romanos Resturant. The 1st prize: Windows 10inch Netbook went to Stephan Carolan, 2nd prize: Bluetooth Mobile Phone Pen went to Monica Tuite and the 3rd prize: Apple iPhone Portable Power Station went to Eithne Carr. 50% of ticket sales were also donated to the Irish Cancer Society as picked by the 1st prize winner. A great day was had by all!

We shared some knowledge on how to promote Dublin city and will continue push forward the ideas discussed. GSM Solutions is at the forefront of electronic repairs in Ireland and will push forward boundaries with the backing of enthusiasm from Lord Mayor.
